Angela left for Maryland last Thursday, so I've been a single dad for the last few days. The three of us have managed to stay pretty busy! Friday morning, we made our first trip of the year to the Maine Wildlife Park. There was no school on Friday, so I took the day off and met up there with Steve from work and his two boys. The kids ran from animal to animal like it was a race, but they pretty much behaved themselves. Highlights were seeing a coyote out and about in the daylight, which is pretty rare, and having a moose with budding antlers bedded down just 15 or 20 yards from the fence. One of the mountain lions was unusually alert and perched on top of his little hill like a sentry. The deer were a disappointment, though. Just a single doe came up to be fed while the rest laid down on the opposite side of the pen. No little ones tearing around yet, either.

I'm happy to be back at work so I can get a little rest after this past weekend!
It started out great on Friday night when Angela took my big girl to a birthday party at a friend's house. I got all caught up on my DVR and played some Rock Band after putting the little one to bed.
Saturday afternoon, big girl got to go to ANOTHER birthday party, this time at Joker's in Auburn. I had to make that trip with her while Angela took the little one shopping. We left the party at around 3pm and headed straight for my parents' house. The girls were spending the night and having their second-ever "sleep-over". The last time they did that was so that Ang and I could go see Superdrag play at the Paradise in Boston. A year and a half later... we were going to see Superdrag play at the Paradise in Boston. There aren't many bands that I'm willing to make a roadtrip to Boston for, but this is one of them. Coincidentally, the lead singer is a huge Ron Paul fan and there are some VERY obvious influences from the Ron Paul 2008 campaign in the lyrics for this song:
The show was great (as always) and we put up with my old buddy, Todd. While he and Angela chit-chatted after the lights came up, I sauntered past the "restricted area" sign and made my way to the soundboard to grab a copy of the set list. Angela was REALLY mad that we were sort of hurried out of the club by security. She hadn't realized that the band was standing at the merch table signing stuff. It would have been nice to get some photos taken, but I'm sure they'll be back.
We made it home at around 3am and I think we were both asleep by 3:30. The next morning, we slept in until around 9:30 and then did a bunch of cleaning and preparing for the Easter Bunny (even though our kids weren't going to be home until much later in the day). Then I put together some cauliflower gratin and we headed over to my folks for Easter dinner. We brought the kids home later in the afternoon and they had a good time searching for chocolate eggs.
Here it is Monday evening and they still haven't found them all!
Officially, it's been spring for a couple of weeks now, but today was the first day it felt like it. Last Sunday, our lawn was still mostly covered with snow. 6 rainy days later, we're down to a 4' x 6' patch where the snowblower had piled it extra high. Today was sunny and the first time all year that it felt too warm to wear a jacket. The lawn was still too wet and soggy, but I let the kids play in the driveway while I cleaned up the garage and the yard.
