If I have got a headache before I even get to work, I know it's going to be a long Wednesday. However, I know that this headache of mine is nothing compared to what my friend Erin struggles with every day.
My old pal Erin had a big article done on her in the paper today. Usually, you might expect to find her in the Forecaster's Police Beat section, but this time it's a story about her struggle with Chiari malformation in the Food & Health section of the Press Herald. You can also find an online version here: http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=204395&ac=Food.
The article also mentions the Conquer Chiari walk taking place in Portland on September 20th. It doesn't cost anything to participate, but walkers that donate a minimum of $20 will get a t-shirt. Donate $50 or more and I'll let you walk somewhat near me. Imagine the photo opportunities! For more info, you can call Erin at 829-6361, email her at ebubbadoo@yahoo.com or visit www.conquerchiari.org.
Erin and I used to eat lunch together every day at school. Often, those lunches would start with me making fun of her for eating hummus and usually they'd end with her trying to kick me in such a way that I'd never be able to have children. I shake my head every time I pack my daughters' lunches with hummus sandwiches.
