Farm Share 2008 Week 11
On Saturday, we headed to the Maine Wildlife Park for the second time this summer. This time, I wanted to get to meet one of my hunting heroes: Richard Bernier. It was a pretty hot day, we forgot to bring a backpack for drinks/camera/etc... and the little one wanted to be carried a LOT and she's not really all that little. Speaking of that... she had her 3 year old well-check on Monday and was not her usually perfect self for the doctor. I think she was put-off by the 20-minute vaccine discussion. All of her running around has finally slimmed her down enough so that she is now "on the chart" weight-wise at 96%. She was also at 90% height, so her weight isn't a concern at all.
Getting back to the weekend, Angela took big sister school shopping on Sunday. I took little sister over to Rick and Karrie's house so that she could play with their two girls, 4 and almost 2. More importantly, they have had a Playstation 3 and Rock Band
for months now and didn't know how to get it connected to the internet! Hopefully, I'll have time to "jam" online with them in a couple of weeks once North Yarmouth Fun Day (more importantly, the planning for Fun Day) is over.
Tuesday morning, Angela and I rode the bus with our soon-to-be kindergartener to go to her school (my old school) for orientation. The ride to school was great - just 10 minutes. The ride home? 45 minutes and that was just with other kindergarteners getting dropped off! Yuck...
Here's this week's farm share. We're more than half-way through it now. Today really felt like fall, too. I'm not sure if it ever got out of the 60s, which is fantastic weather as far as I'm concerned.
1. 5 lbs of various tomatoes
3. peppers
4. eggplants
5. red and green leafed lettuce
6. corn
7. swiss chard
9. basil
10. sage
11. 2lbs of fingerling potatoes
My kids are the last bus stop in the morning..the bus ride is all of 3 minutes to school (If it were us going to school we'd be forced to walk it is that close). They don't take the bus home..but I hear the ride home is 45+ minutes as well..since it is the last stop.
One out the door..congrats!

Love the looks of those eggplants--we just got some at the farmers market yesterday. Let me know what you do with them!

I roasted them whole and made baba ganoush. They were tiny, so I had to quarter the recipe. I think it would have been really good if I had remembered to quarter the lemon juice! Oh well, I just added some extra olive oil and still ate it all.
