Farm Share 2008 Week 3

Not much exciting going on lately. I took the kids to camp this past weekend and we spent Saturday night there. Dad had a big load of tree-length wood delivered to Minnie's house and we made a good dent in it on Saturday. There's probably 4 or 5 more hours of cutting to be done and then we'll need to split the big stuff.

My garden is a complete disaster. The woodchucks have destroyed my beans, my peas never grew, my radish greens are huge, but my radish bulbs are minuscule and the weeds have completely overrun everything. Next year, I'm going to fence it in and apply weed block much more diligently. Good thing we have a farm share!

Here's our week 3 take:

CSA_3_1 1. kohlrabi
2. Chinese cabbage
3. radishes
4. scallions
5. broccoli

CSA_3_2 6. swiss chard
7. hakurei turnips
8. spicy salad mix
9. freckled lettuce
10. peas
11. garlic scapes

CSA_3_3 and here's a close up of the garlic scapes. Those were completely foreign to us, but apparently they are from very young garlic plants and can be used like scallions. Angela found an interesting pesto recipe for them, but we didn't really get enough of them to try it. We'll probably just chop them up and put them in salads instead.

Looks like great stuff! Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July weekend (I'm sad to see it end! The non-working part really agrees with me!)
