I hurt myself today
Despite my girls' best efforts, I ended up having a pretty bad Father's Day. Their hugs, kisses and cards couldn't overshadow the fact that I spent most of the day in bed and unable to keep anything down. Thankfully, I recovered late in the afternoon and was able to eat a little supper. I made omelettes and toast, which is a pretty good combo for a sensitive stomach.
It's a good thing that I got all my important chores done on Saturday. I bought a new battery for the lawn tractor and got my mowing done finally, I laid down some weed-blocking cloth in the garden to hopefully keep things more manageable there, and lastly, I stacked all of my firewood on pallets to dry. My father and I had split it earlier in the week, so it's very green. The garden is looking good. I've got some beans that are 4 inches tall, but have clearly been nibbled on. The peas aren't coming up quite as quickly. I went out tonight after the rain and tossed a couple dozen slugs deep into the bushes. I guess I'll need to put out some beer traps. I did some serious woodchuck harrassing this week and I haven't seen one the last couple of days. Time will tell...
The Johnny Cash version of Hurt always gets to me when I hear it, but seeing the video can give me shivers.
I've got to call my father and grandfather and wish them a happy Father's Day.
happy fathers day man..hope you are feeling better.

Good Lawd, I got tired just reading about the weed blocking-wood stacking-slug tossing....sorry that the outcome had to be the flu, especially on Father's Day. Hope you're feeling better, and you best get back to those slugs....thanks for the photo, by the way, since I was eating yogurt while reading your entry. Make that 1/2 a yogurt, since the other half is now in the trash....

I also wanted to mention that you don't have to set out traps for beer. It's readily available at the supermarket......

Amy - supposedly the SAS Survival Guide has this to say about slugs: "Starve slugs (or snails) for a few days, or feed them only herbs and edible greens for a few days so they can excrete poisons. Then place in a salt water solution to clear out guts, then boil for ten minutes adding herbs for flavor."
Bon appetit!

If you make the next reunion a 'dish to share,' kindly point out what you brought, ok?
