I was really hoping to make it another couple of weeks without installing the air conditioners, but when I went upstairs last night to put the kids to bed and the thermostat was at 91, I knew that the window fans weren't going to suffice. Luckily, they go in a lot quicker than they come out, so it didn't delay bed time too much. I definitely need to put something black over the side panels because the little one got up at 5am this morning and when I went in to snuggle her back to sleep, the room was very bright.
Speaking of the little one... I overheard a conversation between her and her big sister that sums up her personality nicely. The two of them were watching the Sprout TV channel and the guy that reads off the names of all the kids' birthdays for that day said something like "Be sure to visit Sprout online and blah blah blah". The two year old turned to the five year old and said "he doesn't decide what we do!"
Saturday, we went to Angela's sister's house for our niece's birthday party. The weather was beautiful and the kids had a great time in the kiddie pools that they had set up for the "beach party" theme. My brother-in-law's garden looked fantastic. He had started his seeds indoors a week ahead of mine and all of his seedlings were huge already. As soon as we got home, Angela left for a graduation party at her cousin's house. She came home with a sniffle.
Sunday morning, she woke up with a runny nose, but still took our oldest to her cousin's dance recital. I stayed home with the "baby" and was pleasantly surprised with how cool the house was staying despite the unbearable (to me) heat and humidity outside. I really, really hate summer weather. At around 4:30, though, I started to sweat just watching TV so I decided that we'd go out to eat for supper. I wasn't very hungry and we don't have a lot of options on Sundays, so I took her to Subway figuring that tomatoes and olives were going to be best I could hope for her to eat without cooking. Unfortunately, there had been a tomato recall at Subway. To make matters worse, they were also out of raisins and apples! I was glad to escape with a provolone and olive sandwich for her.
I also let her cash in 25 points from her "good behavior" chart for a quick stop at Toots on the way home. The previous two times I had taken her for ice cream, it was torturous waiting for her to finish her small bowls. Toots has a baby size that is just right, though.
When Angela got home from the recital last night, she was full-blown sickly and kept getting worse throughout the evening.I had a slightly runny nose when I got up this morning, so I've got a feeling it's going to be a rough week.
GARDEN UPDATE Week 1: Lots of radishes popping up, but nothing else, yet. I took 2 shots at a woodchuck and somehow managed to miss both times. Just as well, though, because I discovered the next night that the one I had missed was a mama with two good-sized young ones, which means that they'll be heading out to build their own burrows any day now. I need to go nuclear on these suckers and soon. I'll spare my more sensitive readers the details.
